An Interview with Perry Wing...
Sports of All Sorts was founded in 1992 by Gene Daniels. The current director of Sports of All Sorts Youth Association is someone who has dedicated his whole life to sports, Perry Wing. He has been the director for four years, and was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. His motto is, ‘Teaching life’s lessons through athletics while focusing on fun, fitness, and fellowship.’
What is Sports of all Sorts? Well, it’s actually two companies in one; Sports of All Sorts and Sports of All Sorts Youth Association. Besides the sports teams, there are many things to do there, such as playing basketball, using the batting cages, playing in the children’s play area, and even racing on a Minnie kids racecar track! At Sports of All Sorts there is a new program called "Fighting Childhood Obesity", which is a program to help teach children to eat and exercise properly. They also offer a summer day camp for boys and girls to come and participate in fun activities and games. Sometimes, there are even baseball and basketball celebrities that come and interact with the kids!
Some of the things that Perry Wing does each day as director are; create teams and schedules for games and practices, order uniforms for all of the teams, make sure all referees are assigned to teach sports, meet with all the coaches to talk about codes of conduct and expectations, and enter new registrations into the computer. How does he juggle it all, you ask? He has a great hard-working crew that helps him get everything done according to plan.
There are obviously a lot of things he likes about his job, but the thing Perry Wing likes best are the people who come to this wonderful association. He enjoys watching the children participate in sports and also officiating in sports. Of course, he loves being a grandpa! He has a little grandson named Porter. He also has three children, a 25 year-old daughter, a 22 year-old son, and a 16 year-old daughter who is a student at Simon Kenton.
